Job Overview The role of the engineer is to develop core platform software for Qualcomms range of wearable chips. This will be embedded software running on the on-chip processors or associated software written in C and Assembly language within a resource constrained multi-processor environment. Scripting languages such as Python or Perl may also be used. Right candidate shall be required to contribute in all aspects of power management firmware development which includes but is not limited to implementing CPU and SoC power management software while operating a variety of varying use-cases. Candidates will require to design and implement power optimization schemes. Candidate will require to familiarize herself/himself with existing code deployed on earlier variants of the IP and further enhance or fix customer reported issues in the power management firmware. Role would entail troubleshooting and resolving system issues ranging across multiple embedded software layers interfacing with other sub-systems within the chip or with hosting chipsets. An engineer will take ownership of a component of a project and will be responsible for delivering the software on a timescale agreed with the group leader/programme manager. The engineer should be able to work with minimal supervision. This role may involve mentoring of junior members of the team. Key Responsibilities: The ability to multitask in a paced environment Perform requirements capture Task definition and work breakdown including time estimation; The ability to prioritize requests and communicate priorities Detailed design of complex areas including enhancing and adapting existing design to suit software requirements Develops and tests software of major scale and complexity to agreed timescales; Maintenance of software including defect investigation; Delivery of high-quality firmware in line with the departments processes Contribute towards the continuous development of the departments processes; Conducts peer software reviews; Creates relevant documentation following the departments processes; Assist/Lead external inter-operability and compliance test events;
Minimum Qualifications
  • Excellent C (and assembler) programming skills with proven experience of writing efficient code for low powered and memory constrained systems
  • In depth understanding of power management schemes deployed in todays embedded systems and analysing them from hardware/software split perspective.
  • Excellent trouble shooting and analytical skills that can be applied to resolve potential system issues (hardware and software)
  • Effective team player with strong communication skills
  • B.Tech/B.E Computers, Electronics or Electrical
  • 2-15 years of relevant industry work experience
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge embedded power management schemes such as DVFS scheme, power states/flows, power consumption factors, power delivery, reset sequences, OS & device power management schemes Ability to interact with HW designers/architects and internal validation teams to solve functional HW/SW issues. Experience with chip bring up and sound knowledge of digital hardware along with ability to read board schematics Knowledge of ARM architectures V7/V8, preferably Cortex M series of processors. Ability to create and evaluate design documentation detailing complex features and relationships Exposure to working on FPGA based emulation setups, conversant with debugging tools and use of utilities like power analyzers, oscilloscope, JTAG interfaces over Lauterbach/J-Link
